Biography Drama History

An atmospheric, historical epic, based on the real-life story of Ludvig Kahlen. This compelling period piece portrays Kahlen’s attempt to establish a settlement on the barren Jutland moors – and his battle against the environment, bandits and a sadistic local official. A complex story, with rich portrayals that make the film really gripping. Fantastic wide-screen cinematography, witty and emotional, ‘a near perfect cinematic experience’, where nearly every frame is a work of art. Deeper and darker than director Arkel’s equally great film A Royal Affair, Mads Mikkelsen’s acting is superb, making this 2023’s best film for many viewers.
